FAST BREAK POINTS
- The Canisius College men's basketball
team closes out the 2009 calendar year tonight when the Golden Griffins travel
to long-time rival St. Bonaventure.
- This will be the 158th all-time meeting
between these two schools in a series that dates back to Jan. 23, 1920.
- The last time Canisius played in the
Reilly Center against the Bonnies (Dec. 1, 2007), the Griffs started five
freshmen. According to available records, that night marked the first time
since 1960 that Canisius started five true freshmen in the same game.
- The Griffs enter tonight's contest with
a 6-6 overall record after beating New Orleans 63-48 Dec. 23 on the final day
of the Southern Miss Christmas Classic.
- Canisius hit the Christmas holiday with
a .500 record for the first time since 2000-01.
- The Blue and Gold finished the three-day Southern Miss Christmas Classic with a
2-1 record to allow the team to finish second in the four-team event.
- Canisius has held its last two
opponents (Southern Miss and New Orleans) to a combined 34.3 percent (34-for-99)
from the field after the Privateers shot 30.4 percent from the floor Dec. 23.
- Frank Turner leads the
MAAC in scoring average at 17.7 points per game. The senior guard saw his
streak of 30-straight games with double figures in the scoring column come to
an end with nine points against New Orleans Dec. 23.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
- St. Bonaventure enters tonight's game
with a 6-5 record after falling to Niagara 77-71 Dec. 22
- The Bonnies are led by Andrew Nicholson,
who is averaging 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting 55.5
percent from the floor.
- Chris Matthews is chipping in 11.8 points per game
for St. Bonaventure, which enters tonight's game averaging 72.6 points per game
as a team.
- Malcolm Eleby leads the Bonnies with 4.5 assists per
game. As a team, the Bonnies are averaging 16.5 assists per outing.
- St. Bonaventure is 4-1 at home this year, with the lone loss
coming to St. John's Nov. 17.
CANISIUS - ST. BONAVENTURE SERIES
- Tonight's game between Canisius and St.
Bonaventure marks the 158th all-time clash between these two long-time rivals.
- St. Bonaventure holds a 95-62 lead in
the all-time series, but the Golden Griffins have won four of the last six
contests and 10 of the last 15 meetings.
- This game will mark the 34th time the Griffs have played the Bonnies in the
Reilly Center, where St. Bonaventure holds a 28-5 lead in the series.
- The Griffs lost 25-straight games in the Reilly Center before posting a 76-74
win Dec. 3, 1994. In their seven previous trips to Olean, N.Y., the Blue and
Gold is 4-3.
- Canisius has played more games against St. Bonaventure than any other
non-conference opponent.
- This is the 87th season these two
schools have met on the hardwood. In terms of years, this is Canisius' longest
running rivalry.
