For the second consecutive week, two Canisius College softball players have been honored by the MAAC for their play last week after the Golden Griffins went 3-1 in the two-day Colonial Classic in Washington, D.C. Junior Paige Freiberger was named the MAAC's Player of the Week while freshman Amanda Baun was recognized as the conference's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.

Freiberger was named the league's player of the week after she hit .364 (4-for-11) with five RBIs, three runs scored, a double, two home runs and a stolen base in four games. In the Griffs' 10-2 win over Army March 6, she went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored on a pair of two-run homers, the first multi-homer game of her college career. The junior third baseman, who ranks second on the team in RBIs so far this season with 13, also registered a run batted in against Binghamton as the Griffs came from one-run down to beat the Bearcats in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Baun posted a 2-1 record with a save and a 0.47 ERA to go with 20 strikeouts in 15 innings of work in the circle last week. She earned a win in relief in the Griffs' victory over Army after she gave up one hit and struck out three in four innings and then followed that effort by tossing two scoreless innings to earn a second win in relief as the Blue and Gold came back to defeat Binghamton 3-2. Baun also earned her first career save last week after she gave up two hits and struck out three in two innings of relief in Canisius' 4-1 win over George Washington. So far this season, she leads the MAAC in wins with six and her 73 strikeouts in 60 innings of work is tops in the conference.
