10 Questions With...

Gabby Kotas
Sr. | Lacrosse

1. What is the best part about being a Griff?
The best part about being a Griff is the teammates that turn into friends, which eventually turn into family. Going through the ups and downs of each year create a bond that only teammates can share.

2. Why did you choose to attend Canisius?
The education and the lacrosse program were the main reasons I chose Canisius. The small size of the college was appealing and knowing Cansius women's lacrosse was becoming a stronger and dominating force in not only the MAAC, but also the country, was a significant factor.

3. What is your favorite part about Buffalo?
My favorite part of Buffalo is the fact I am able to be close to my family and have them watch me and my sister play.

4. What are three words that you’d use to describe yourself?
Passionate, outgoing, and straight-forward.

5. Do you have a nickname? If so what’s the story behind it?
Everyone calls me Gabe. A substitute teacher in middle school pronounced my name GABEriel instead of Gabrielle, and it has stuck ever since. It has expanded to Gaber, Gubrehe, Gabs, Gweeble, Gerber baby, Binx etc.

6. If you weren’t playing lacrosse, what sport would you be playing?
Probably soccer. I played it my entire life, so I think I’d still be playing that if I wasn’t playing lacrosse.

7. What is your favorite moment as a Canisius student-athlete?
Every MAAC Championship was a memorable moment, but the 2013 MAAC Championship was the most exciting. We were down the entire game and only one by one goal, so winning it felt surreal.

8. What is your pregame ritual, routine or superstition?
She may not even know it, but I try to slap Scully in the helmet before the first draw of every game.

9. Is there a story behind your number?
I’ve been number 15 since my freshman year of high school and was lucky enough to get it when I came to Canisius. So at first it didn’t have any importance, but now I feel it has become a part of me.

10. What is one interesting thing that someone may not know about you?
I call my mom and dad Sloth and Bird because they look identical to those animals.
