The Canisius College volleyball team went 1-1 in the Kent State tri-match Saturday afternoon in Kent, Ohio. The Golden Griffins posted a 3-1 (30-26, 30-27, 18-30, 30-27) win over Radford in the first game of the day before falling to the host Golden Flashes 3-2 (30-17, 26-30, 17-30, 30-25, 9-15) in five games. Canisius is now 2-7 on the year.
Canisius was led offensively by sophomore Christine Wildes. The outside hitter collected 35 kills in the two games, highlighted by a game-high 18 kills in the loss to Kent St., and a team-high 17 kills in the win over Radford. Canisius had five players scored double-digit kills in the win over Radford. Senior Jennifer DeBee posted a season-best 14 kills on 24 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Jackie Reed collected a total of 98 assists in the two matches. Reed had a career-high 51 assists in the win over the Highlanders and was also credited with a total of 33 digs on the day. Senior Kelly Sieber was credited with 40 digs in the two games. Sieber, who played the libero postition in both matches, scored a career-high 27 digs in the Griffs loss to Kent St.
The Blue and Gold will return to action Sept. 20-21 at home against Youngstown St., Stony Brook, Cleveland St. and UB in the WNY Holiday Inn Volleyball Invitational.
