Canisius College freshman volleyball player Leigh Launhardt was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 6. Launhardt is the second Golden Griffin volleyball player to be honored by the MAAC in the last three weeks after sophomore Christina Wildes was named the Player of the Week Sept. 23.

Launhardt was credited with a career-high 15 kills and registered five service aces in Canisius’ 3-1 win over St. Francis (Pa.) Oct. 5, in the Koessler Athletic Center. Launhardt leads the team with a .265 hitting percentage and 30 service aces. She is also averaging 2.56 kills per contest, which ranks her third on the team.

The Griffs will open the MAAC portion of their 2002 schedule Oct. 12-13, at Loyola and Rider. Canisius is 4-13 in 2002 and have won two of its last three matches. The Blue and Gold’s four wins matches the program’s entire win total from a season ago.
