Volleyball Gains First MAAC Win in 2002

Four Canisius College volleyball players posted double digit kills as the Golden Griffins defeated Rider Universty 3-1 (24-30, 30-13, 30-14, 30-28) Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville, N.J. Canisius is now 5-14 overall, 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Rider falls to 4-15, 0-2 in conference play.


Freshman Leigh Launhardt led the Griffs with 13 kills. Senior Jennifer DeBee and sophomore Christina Wildes were both credited with 11 kills, while teammmate Kim Hoffman posted 10 kills in the Blue and Gold's winning effort.


Junior setter Jackie Reed had a game-high 41 assists and collected a team-best 17 digs. Freshman Kerry McNamee was credited with 16 digs, senior Kelly Sieber finished the day with 15 digs for Canisius.

Rider's Jaclyn Levi had a game-high 24 kills for the host Broncs. Rider setter Laura Berger dished out 39 assists for the Broncs in the losing effort.

Canisius will return to action Saturday, Oct. 19, against local and conference rival Niagara in the Koessler Atheltic Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
