Volleyball Sweeps Marist in MAAC Action

Sophomore Kim Hoffman posted a game-high 17 kills and scored three service aces to help lead the Canisius College volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-17) win over visiting Marist College Sunday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. The is the fourth win in five matches for the Golden Griffins, and improves their record to 8-15 overall, 4-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Marist falls to 9-18 overall, 3-4 in conference play.

Canisius senior Jennifer DeBee had 11 kills and finished the day with a .667 hitting percentage. Junior Jackie Reed was credited with a game-high 39 assists while senior Kelly Sieber had a team best 10 digs. The freshmen duo of Leigh Launhardt and Kerry McNamee were also credited with three service aces apiece in the win.

In the second game of the day, the Griffs did not commit a single attack error and posted a team hitting percentage of .594 en route to a 30-16 win. The Blue and Gold led the second game 18-14 before outscoring the Red Foxes 12-2 for the rest of the contest.

Aline dos Santos led Marist with her team best nine kills. Christina Brozek collected eight kills, while setter Meghan Cochrane was credited with 30 assists.

Canisius will return to action Friday, Nov. 1, when the team travels to conference rival Iona for a 5 p.m., match.
