Canisius College sophomore Leigh Launhardt and freshman Mary Boller were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday for their efforts in helping lead the volleyball team to a program record six-straight wins after posting three wins over conference foes last week.

Launhardt (left) was named the MAAC’s Player of the Week after posting 33 kills, four solo blocks and 13 block assists in the team’s three road contests. Launhardt hit .348 with 10 kills and two solo blocks in the Golden Griffins’ win at Niagara Oct. 29, then pounded 14 kills and a career-high five block assists in the team’s 3-2 win over Marist Nov. 1. Launhardt leads the team with her .303 hitting percentage this season, which ranks fourth in the MAAC. She also ranks second in the MAAC in blocks per game, averaging 1.11 per contest. Launhardt is the first middle hitter to be honored by the MAAC this season and the second Canisius player to receive the award this year.

Boller was honored as the conference’s Rookie of the Week after tallying 27 kills, one ace, six digs, three solo blocks and 11 block assists from her middle hitter position. Boller is second on the team in blocks and her 2.71 kills per game ranks her fourth on the team. She is the first Canisius player to be honored as the conference’s top rookie this season.

The Griffs are 16-11 overall, 5-2 in MAAC action. The Blue and Gold have won 10 of their last 12 matches and have locked up the second winning season in the program’s 28-year history. Canisius will close out the regular season Nov. 8-9 at home against conference rivals Iona and Fairfield. Canisius can earn a trip to its first MAAC Tournament since 1997 with one win next weekend.
