Five Volleyball Players Named All-Academic

Five Canisius College volleyball players were named to the 2003 MAAC All-Academic Team, it was announced today.

Seniors Nicole Lucie and Kate Calderone were honored for the third-straight year. Lucie holds a 3.56 grade point average as a health and physical education major, while Calderone carries a 3.39 gpa in health and physical education.

Senior setter Jackie Reed was honored for her 3.73 grade point average as an elementary education/mathematics major at Canisius. Last week she was also named to Second Team All-District I All-Academic by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Junior Nicole Boucher and sophomore Leigh Launhardt were also honored by the MAAC for their work in the classroom. Boucher holds a 3.46 gpa in finance, while Launhardt carries a 3.40 grade point average as an elementary/special education major. She is also a two-time recipient of the Ralph Wilson Scholarship Award.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a 3.20 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
