Canisius College senior volleyball player Christina Wildes (right) has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Wildes posted a .340 hitting percentage with 57 kills, 28 digs and three service aces as the Golden Griffins went 2-1 at the Valley National Bank Knights Classic in Hackensack, N.J., Oct. 8-9. Wildes shared this week’s honor with Iona’s Miki Hogg.
In the team’s non-conference match at Fairleigh Dickinson, Wildes scored a career-high 28 kills on 58 attack attempts (.448 hitting percentage) to help lead the Griffs to a 3-1 win over the host Knights. In the match, Wildes passed former Canisius standout Erin Oveis as the program’s all-time leader in career attack attempts. The 5-foot-10 senior from Long Beach, N.Y., now has 4,024 career attack attempts and ranks second in career kills with 1,283, 201 kills shy of the program’s all-time record in that category, a mark also held by Oveis.
Canisius will host Syracuse Oct. 13, in the Koessler Athletic Center in a non-conference match. This will be the Griffs’ first home match since Sept. 4. The Blue and Gold will also play host to Marist and Siena Oct. 16-17, in the team’s first MAAC action of the year.
