Volleyball Drops Siena in MAAC Action

The Canisius College volleyball team hit .275 as a team, while holding visiting Siena College to a .115 team hitting percentage as the Golden Griffins evened their MAAC record at 1-1 in 2004 with a 3-1 (30-23, 27-30, 30-14, 30-17) victory Sunday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius improved it’s overall record to 8-11 with the win, while Siena drops to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in MAAC action.


Canisius senior Christina Wildes was credited with a match-high 20 kills and 21 digs, while fellow senior Kim Hoffman celebrated her 21st birthday with 17 kills, four service aces and 16 digs in the win. Sophomore Mary Boller posted 15 kills and three block assists. Freshman setter Lauren Lackovich scored a match-high 47 assists to go along with five kills, three digs and two block assists for the Griffs.


With the match tied at 1-1, Canisius came out in the third game and posted a .308 team hitting percentage while the Saints hit -.023 as a team. Canisius closed out the match by hitting .436 as a team, while holding Siena to a .111 hitting percentage in the final game of the day.


Siena’s Christie Gustafson led the way for the Saints, pounding down 12 kills in the loss. Teammate Diana Wierzba had 10 kills, a match-high 27 digs and three service aces. Canisius sophomore Emily McNabb scored three kills, two solo blocks and a block assist for the Griffs, with teammate Lindsay Garbacz collecting four kills, three assists and 13 digs in the winning effort.

The win snapped the Griffs’ three-match losing streak. The Blue and Gold will return to action Oct. 23-24, at MAAC rivals Iona and Fairfield.
