The Canisius College volleyball team hit .340 as a team and posted 10-team blocks en route to dropping the visiting Saint Peter's Peahens 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-21) Saturday afternoon in MAAC volleyball action in the Koessler Athletic Center. The win snapped Canisius' two-match losing streak and improved the team to 9-13 overall and 2-3 in conference action, while Saint Peter's falls to 5-16 overall and 3-2 in MAAC play.

Canisius opened the match on fire, pounding down 21 kills on 33 attack attempts in the first game. For the match, the Golden Griffins scored 50 kills as a team and registered eight service aces. The team's .340 hitting percentage was the highest of season.

Three Canisius players registered double figures in the kills column, led by senior Christina Wildes, who posted a match-high 15 kills to go along with five digs, three service aces and two block assists. Fellow senior Kim Hoffman posted 14 kills and a team-high eight digs, while sophomore Mary Boller (right) had 12 kills, three digs, three solo blocks and two block assists.

Saint Peter's junior Gulhan Cakcak led the way for the Peahens with 14 kills, eight digs, and a block assist. Valeria Kovaleva posted eight kills, a team-high 20 assists, and a match-high nine digs in the losing effort. Canisius freshman setter Lauren Lackovich was credited with a match-high 38 assists in the win for the Blue and Gold while teammate Emily McNabb scored a career-high six kills, a solo block and four block assists.

The Griffs will return to action Sunday, Oct. 31, when the team plays host to Manhattan in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Canisius snapped an eight-match losing streak to Manhattan earlier this season with a 3-1 non-conference win Sept. 18, in the Rose Hill Classic at Fordham University.
