Loyola Sweeps Volleyball 3-0

Loyola's Becky Corb registered a match-high 23 kills to go with six digs, two assists and two block assists to help lead the host Greyhounds to a 3-0 (30-21, 32-30, 30-28) win over the Canisius College volleyball team Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The win improves Loyola to 9-17 overall and 2-5 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, while the Golden Griffins slip to 10-15 overall and 3-5 in league action.

Canisius senior Christina Wildes scored 18 kills and eight digs in the loss for the Griffs, while fellow senior Kim Hoffman posted 15 kills, 11 digs, a solo block and a block assist. Sophomore Mary Boller pounded down 11 kills to go with two solo blocks and four block assists.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and took control in game three, leading 22-15 at one point before the Blue and Gold mounted their comeback charge. Canisius pulled the score to 29-28, but Corb was able to close out the match with a kill for Loyola's 30th and final point.

Christina Greenup had 16 kills in the win for Loyola. Loyola setter Krystal Biegaj was credited with a match-high 51 assists. Canisius freshman Lauren Lackovich passes out 40 assists in the losing effort for the Griffs.

Canisius will close out the 2004 season Saturday, Nov. 13, with a MAAC match at home against local rival Niagara. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the volleyball program will honor its three seniors; Nicole Boucher, Kim Hoffman and Christina Wildes, who will be playing in their final home match.
