Four Canisius College players recorded double-digits in the kills column, led by junior Leigh Launhardt (right) and her team best 17, as the Golden Griffins snapped a four-match losing streak with a 3-2 (19-30, 30-25, 24-30, 30-28, 15-13) come-from-behind win over St. Francis (Pa.) Sunday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. The victory improves the Blue and Gold to 6-10 overall, while the Red Flash see their record slip to 2-15 with the loss, the program’s fourth-straight overall.

Canisius trailed the match 2-1 after falling 30-24 in game three, and in game four, the Red Flash held a 26-23 lead before the Griffs made a charge and scored four consecutive points to take a 27-26 lead. St. Francis knotted the game at 27-27, but Lauren Lackovich and Aislinn Hayes recorded back-to-back kills for the Griffs to stretch the lead to 29-27. Canisius closed out the fourth game when Hayes recorded one of her 14 kills off an assist from Lackovich, who was credited with a match-high 48 helpers in the win.

In the fifth and final game, Canisius jumped out to an early 6-1 lead thanks to a pair of kills by Hayes and one from Mary Boller, who closed out the contest with 13 kills to go with a solo block, five block assists and two service aces. Launhardt led the way offensively for the Griffs with her season-high 17 kills, while also adding a solo block and four block assists. Freshman Morgan Ammons had 10 kills and nine digs for Canisius, while Hayes was good for 13 digs and three service aces in the winning effort.

The Red Flash also had four players post double-digit kills, led by Kristin Buter and her match-high 20 kills on 45 attack attempts. Anne Roosevelt added 16 kills and a match-high 24 digs for St. Francis, while teammate Linda Dolansky was good for 19 kills and six digs. As a team, St. Francis hit .249, while the Griffs posted a .212 attack percentage and a total of 12-team blocks.

Canisius will close out its three-match homestand Wednesday, Oct. 5, when the team plays host to cross-town rival Buffalo in the Koessler Athletic Center. The match will be the final non-conference match of the 2005 season for the Griffs, and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
