Box Score

The Canisius College volleyball team took the first game but Loyola then won the next three to defeat the Golden Griffin 25-30, 30-22, 30-26, 31-29 on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.

Two Golden Griffins recorded 30-plus digs as Jess Stackhouse (Warsaw, N.Y.) had 38 while freshman Renee Lettow (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) totaled a career-high 34. Michella Domo (Vancouver, B.C.) led Canisius (8-16, 6-7 MAAC) with 15 kills and a team-best .344 attack percentage. Lettow also had 11 kills, while Brittany Gerde (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded her first career triple-double with 12 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs.

The Griffs took the first game by building a big lead early and hanging on in the end. Canisius won 11 of 12 points to take the 14-3 advantage, but Loyola got as close as 25-23 before the Griffs closed it out by winning the final three points of the game.

Loyola (18-10, 9-4) won the second game by breaking it open late. With the score tied at 20-20, the Greyhounds closed the game on a 10-2 run to end the match. Loyola did the same in game three, closing that game on a 10-3 run. In the fourth and final game of the match, Loyola rallied again, going on a 5-1 run when it was behind 28-26 to win the contest.

"It was a close match, and our team battled today," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "We're still in the playoff hunt, but we have to take advantage when we have the lead, especially against a team as skilled as Loyola."

Christina Greenup led Loyola with 17 kills while Nina Camaioni and Rachel Schillinger had 14. Camaioni and Brittany Born each had 30 digs while Chrissey Cruz had 57 assists.

Canisius returns to the court on Sunday, when the Griffs play at Rider. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
