Podlesh Named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

Canisius College senior libero Sarah Podlesh was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

Podlesh averaged 5.00 digs per set in the Golden Griffins' three-set victories over Fairfield and Saint Peter's. The 5-foot-7 senior posted 20 digs in the sweep of Saint Peter's, the most digs by a Golden Griffin in a three-set match since Jess Stackhouse had 20 on Oct. 28, 2007. On the weekend, Podlesh totaled 30 digs and was perfect in service reception, not committing an error in 25 reception attempts.

Podlesh ranks third in the conference, averaging 4.23 digs per set. The program's all-time leader in service aces with 155, Podlesh ranks sixth in the conference in service aces per set (0.34). For her career, Podlesh ranks sixth in career digs (1,041) and her 415 sets played rank as the fourth-most in program history.

Canisius is 16-8 on the season and 11-4 in the MAAC. The Golden Griffins play their final two regular-season road games of the season this weekend, starting at Iona on Saturday.
