B.J. Adams
Assistant Coach

B.J. Adams is in his fifth season as assistant coach with the Canisius College hockey team. Adams is responsible for recruiting and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Golden Griffin hockey program, while working directly with the team’s defenders and penalty kill unit.

Adams played a key role in recruiting and building the 2013 Atlantic Hockey Championship team. He oversaw the top scoring defense in the league, while also leading a penalty kill unit that ranked third nationally and owned the 11th-best mark in NCAA history.

In his first four seasons, Adams has also mentored a number of student-athletes to individual success. He helped Carl Hudson establish school records by a defender in points and goals, while earning all-conference accolades. Hudson then signed an NHL contract after being coached by Adams when he inked with the Florida Panthers in 2010. The following season, Adams helped Ben Danford establish program marks for assists by a defender and points by a rookie defenseman.

Adams joined the Griffs after spending three seasons as a player/coach with the Port Huron Icehawks and Flags. Among his duties in Port Huron, Adams was responsible for recruiting, scouting and on-ice instruction, while also serving as a defenseman with the team.

The Scarborough, Ontario native played a total of 10 professional seasons of hockey, competing in the ECHL, IHL, CHL and UHL. He was also a four-year letterwinner at Bowling Green State University from 1996-2000. While with the Falcons, Adams was honored with the Jim Sears Award as the team's MVP following his senior season and was twice named the team's Best Defensive Player.

Adams has also served as an assistant director and coach of CAN/AM Hockey since 2000, where he was a head on-ice instructor in addition to supervising and evaluating coaches.

Adams earned his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green in education.
