Canisius College men's lacrosse standout Adam Jones led his junior team, the
Orangeville Northmen, to its second-straight Minto Cup Championship, awarded to
the top junior team in Canada. Along with the title, Jones also earned the Jim
McConaghy Memorial Award as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
"It's definitely something you dream about as a kid," Jones
told the Canadian Press after the
Northmen's win and MVP nod. "It's icing on the cake. The Minto Cup is what we
came for.
Jones, who was also named NLLInsider Playoff Performer of the Year for the second-consecutive
season, led all scorers with 28 points during the Minto Cup, the second highest
point total since the tournament expanded in 2003.
The MVP accolades capped Jones' impressive summer season.
The rising junior was also named the National Junior Player of the Year by
NLLInsider and the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior Player of the Year.
Jones posted 91 points, 39 goals and 52 assists during the regular season while
leading the Northmen to a 19-2-1 mark.
A two-time first-team All-MAAC selection with the Griffs,
Jones led the team 33 goals in 2009. He finished his sophomore season ranked
sixth nationally and first among midfielders with 2.75 goals per game. In 2008,
Jones became the first Griff to garner All-America accolades after leading the
team to its first MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Canisius sophomore Travis Gibbons was also a member of the Northmen. During his rookie season, Gibbons played in 10 games and tallied one goal and one assist.
Jones is the third Griff to earn the Jim McConaghy Award,
joining Randy Mearns and Matt Vinc.
