Four former and current Canisius College men's lacrosse
players have been named to the defending world champion Team Canada's roster
for the 2010 Men's Lacrosse World Championship. Canisius graduates Angus Dineley, Kevin Ross and Matt Vinc
plus current Griff Adam Jones were all named to the Team Canada roster.
The four Canisius standouts are among the 30 players
selected to the national team. Canada, who won the 2006 championship, will
defend its crown in July 2010 in Manchester, England.
Dineley played for the Griffs from 2004 to 2007. He appeared
in 39 games with 28 starting assignments and ranks fifth in school history with
306 career saves, fourth with a .528 career save percentage and third with a
9.63 goals against average. During the 2005 campaign, Dineley recorded a save
percentage of .595, the ninth-best mark in the NCAA.
Ross, a 2007 NLL first-round draft pick, spent the 2008-09
season with the Minnesota Swarm, totaling 43 points, 20 goals and 23 assists.
He graduated from Canisius ranked fourth in school history with 185 points,
second with 126 goals and seventh with 59 assists. A three-time first-team
All-MAAC selection, Ross was named the conference's Offensive Player of the
Year in 2006.
Vinc, a member of the 2006 world championship team, led the
Griffs in ground balls in three different seasons and ranks fifth all-time with
258 career ground balls. A 2004 and 2005 All-MAAC selection, Vinc played in
eight games at the 2006 World Championship, recording one goal and eight ground
balls. Vinc was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NLL Draft as a
goalkeeper and is currently a member of the Orlando Titans.
Jones, who was named MVP of the U-19 World Championship in
2008, was the named the Canadian National Junior Player of the Year in 2009
after leading the Orangeville Northmen to their second-straight Minto Cup. A
two-time first-team All-MAAC selection with the Griffs, Jones led the team with
33 goals last season. In 2008, he became the first Griff to garner All-America
accolades after leading the team to its first MAAC Championship and NCAA
Tournament appearance.
In addition to the four players, Canisius head coach Randy
Mearns will serve as an assistant coach with Team Canada for the second-straight
World Championship.
