Michael Smrek '85 - The 7-1 center spent four years with the Canisius men's basketball team, becoming one of the nations' most dominating centers in his junior and senior years.  Smrek set a school record as a junior when he made 63.2 percent of his field goals as Canisius went 19-11 on the season. During his senior campaign, he averaged 15.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as Canisius captured the North Atlantic title and advanced to post-season play (NIT) for the first time in 22 years. A 1985 first team all-NAC pick and Honorable Mention All-American, Smrek was the first player chosen in the second round of the NBA draft. He played professionally with Chicago, LA Lakers (where he won a pair of world titles), San Antonio, Golden State and the LA Clippers and scored 554 career points.
