*Rev. James M. Demske - Under the leadership of Father Demske, the Canisius College athletic program emerged as one of the finest in the East over the past 27 years. The Koessler Athletic Center was constructed in 1968 under his direction, and the Demske Sports Complex was completed in 1989. Father Demske's tenure also witnessed the return of the football program, which grew from club status to Division IAA in 1994. Canisius College became a viable member of the North Atlantic Conference in the 1980s, before joining the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1989. During his tenure, Canisius hosted 22 men's and women's sports.
