Dr. Daniel P. Starr '58 -Athletic Director, 1974-2000 The most visible man in Canisius College athletics for over a quarter of a century, Starr was the chief administrator for the college's athletic program from 1974-2000. During his tenure the program grew from a small, men's-only program to one that included 21 sports. He played a major role in the Griffs jump in 1989 to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and was instrumental in the formation of the ECAC Football Conference. His tenure also included the construction of the Demske Sports Complex, four post-season appearances for the men's basketball team, including an NIT Final Four appearance in 1995, two NCAA invites for the softball team and nationally competitive synchronized swimming and rifle teams.
