*Jimmy Wilson -Football Coach, 1939-1942, 1948-1949 Jimmy Wilson is a graduate of Cornell University and U.B. Law School. He coached the freshman football team at Canisius from 1935 through 1938. He also had two stints as a mentor of the varsity gridders. He was head coach of the varsity team from 1939-1942 then returned for two more seasons in 1948. His overall record is 29-14-4. Wilson led the Golden Griffins to its only bowl game, the Great Lakes Bowl in 1948, where the team lost to John Carroll 14-13. That season Wilson led the team to a 7-1-1 finish before heading to Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio for the Great Lakes Bowl. Wilson served overseas as a first lieutenant during World War I. Wilson's own athletic career was a varied one. He played football at Cornell and had a stint with the Buffalo All Americans (a team in the NFL from 1920-27).
