After helping the Griffs to a weekend sweep over
Connecticut, senior Andrew Loewen earned Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors
for the second time this season.
In two victories over the Huskies, Loewen posted a goals
against average of 1.51 and a save percentage of .945. He recorded 20 saves in
the Griffs' 3-1 victory on Friday, yielding just the one goal on a 5-on-3 power
play. In the finale, Loewen stopped 32 shots in Canisius' 5-2 win.
For the season, Loewen has posted a 4-2-2 record with a
goals against average of 3.05 and a save percentage of .914. The senior also
earned the weekly accolade earlier in the season following a shutout against
AIC.
During his four-year career, Loewen has stopped 2,381 shots,
the second-most in the program's Division I history. He also leads all
goaltenders with a .914 save percentage and ranks second in both wins (29) and
goals against average (2.90).
The weekly honor is the 11th for Loewen during his career, tied
for the most in Atlantic Hockey history. Air Force's Andrew Volkening has also
earned the award 11 times.
Loewen and the Griffs return to the ice on Friday, beginning
a home-and-home series with Mercyhurst. The two schools open the series at the
Buffalo State Sports Arena with game time slated for 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
