The first day of the USF Wilson-DeMarini Classic in Tampa,
Fla., was rained out on Friday as heavy rains moved into the area just before
first pitch. The Canisius College softball team was scheduled to open the 2010
season by playing Florida Gulf Coast and the host South Florida Bulls on Friday
afternoon.
After the tournament committee changed the schedule
following Friday's wash out,
Canisius will open the season at 10 a.m. Saturday when the Griffs meet
No. 13 Georgia Tech. Canisius will get right back onto the field after its
meeting with the Yellow Jackets as the Blue and Gold is scheduled to meet
Florida Gulf Coast at noon.
On Sunday, Canisius will play two games, starting at 9 a.m.,
when the team plays Illinois State. The Griffs will close out the
Wilson-DeMarini event at 3:30 p.m., Sunday when the team takes on South
Florida.
The Griffs return six starters and 11 letterwinners from
last year's team that went 26-25 overall and secured the programs third consecutive
MAAC Tournament championship. The Feb. 13, start date is the earliest in the
program's history.
