Senior Brett Poissant scored her career-high fourth goal of the game with 49 seconds remaining in regulation to lead the Canisius College women's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory against Longwood in the team's season opener.

Poissant also added an assist for a personal-best five points on the day. Sophomore Kristy Wilensky added her first collegiate hat trick, while juniors Ashley Curtis, Jackie Loson and Carly Quinn, sophomore Megan Oosting plus freshmen Kate Gosson and Lindsey Morgan rounded out the scoring for the Griffs with one goal each.

Junior Allison Daley recorded 13 saves, including nine in the second half, to anchor the Canisius defense and earn the victory. Senior Marissa Brown recorded a game-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The game was closely contested throughout with neither team grabbing more than a two-goal advantage. Canisius trailed 12-10 late in the contest but Poissant ignited the team's rally. The senior captain brought the Griffs to within one with 8:04 left in the game, scoring her third goal of the afternoon. Poissant then assisted on Wilensky's game-tying score with 4:34 left in regulation before scoring the game-winner with 49 ticks remaining on a free-position opportunity.

Karli Brentlinger and Jess Rudloff both led Longwood with three goals. Juli Liebig recorded 10 saves in the defeat.

Canisius returns to action on Feb. 26, playing at Boston College.

Game Notes: Poissant's free-position goal with 49 seconds left was the first in her career ... She was 0-for-20 prior to that goal ...
