Women's Lacrosse Heads to MAAC Championship

The Canisius College women's lacrosse team opens postseason play on Friday, playing Marist in the MAAC Semifinals. The second-seeded Griffs and third-seeded Red Foxes are meeting for the third-straight season in the MAAC Tournament and will square off on Friday at approximately 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to face the winner of top-seeded Fairfield and No. 4 Siena in the MAAC Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m.

MAAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Canisius is playing in its fourth MAAC Tournament and in its third-consecutive.
• For the third-straight season, Canisius and Marist will be meeting in the 2-3 matchup. The Red Foxes won each of the last two meetings, including a 13-11 win last year.
• The Griffs are 1-3 all-time in the MAAC Tournament. Canisius advanced to the 2006 MAAC Championship game after defeating Fairfield in the semifinals and losing to Le Moyne in the championship.
• Canisius is 1-1 all-time as the higher seeded team and 1-2 as the No. 2 seed.
• In 2009, Marist scored four-straight goals late in the game to earn an 13-11 win. Marissa Brown and Chelsea Martinez were both named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team.

ENTERING ON A HIGH
• The Griffs are riding a lot of momentum into the 2010 MAAC Tournament.
• Canisius is currently on a five-game winning streak, matching the school record set during the 2006 and 2008 seasons.
• The Griffs also enter the MAAC Tournament with a 10-7 record, its second-best regular-season record in the program's history. The 2006 team that advanced to the championship game completed an 11-6 regular-season mark.
• In addition, Canisius' one loss in conference play this season matches a school record. The 2006 team went 6-1 during league play.

QUINN EARNS SECOND MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
• Junior Carly Quinn has made her return during the 2010 season a successful one. Quinn was forced to miss the entire 2009 season due to injury and has returned better than ever.
• In 2010, Quinn ranks second on the team with 45 points, recording 26 goals and 19 assists.
• Her 45 points are three times the amount she recorded as a freshman. In 2008, Quinn posted 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.
• Quinn earned her second MAAC Offensive Player of the Week award following a 17-point week (10g, 7a) to finish the regular season. The junior set career highs with nine points and seven goals against Manhattan and five assists versus Niagara.

CANISIUS - FAIRFIELD SERIES HISTORY
• In a series that dates back to the 1990 season, Fairfield owns a 10-3 edge.
• The Stags have won the last four games in the series, including a 13-7 win in Buffalo earlier in the season.
Brett Poissant and Megan Oosting led the Griffs with two goals. Canisius was also able to keep Fairfield's top scorer, Kristen Coleman, without a goal for the first time in her career.
• Canisius won the only postseason meeting between the two schools, earning a 16-12 victory in the 2006 MAAC Semifinals.

CANISIUS - MARIST SERIES HISTORY
• Friday's game marks the 16th time that Canisius and Marist will square off in women's lacrosse.
• Canisius has played the Red Foxes more than any other school.
• Marist owns a convincing 13-2 edge in the all-time series despite a Canisius win earlier in the season.
• The Griffs earned a 16-15 overtime victory against the Red Foxes. Ashley Curtis and Megan Oosting led the Griffs with four goals, while Allison Daley stopped 15 shots.
• Marist has defeated Canisius in each of the last two MAAC Semifinals.

CANISIUS - SIENA SERIES HISTORY
• In 12 all-time meetings between Canisius and Siena, each school has won six games.
• The Griffs have won the last three games in the series and four of the last five, including an 11-7 win at Siena earlier in the season.
Allison Daley stopped a school-record 20 shots, while Marissa Brown led the offense with three goals.
• The two schools have never met in the postseason.
