Golf Closes Out Play at Turning Stone Event

Canisius sophomore Michael Carrig posted a final round score of 74 to climb 14 spots on the final leader board in the third and final round of the Turning Stone Intercollegiate Tournament at the Kaluhyat Course in Verona, N.Y. As a team, the Golden Griffins carded a team-score of 324 in the third round for a 54-hole total of 983.

Carrig's two-over 74 moved him from a tie for 53rd overall at the start of the day into a tie for 39th in the field which featured 90 golfers. Senior Michael Knott and sophomore Mike Spiotta each shot 82 in the final round.

Oakland University golfer Jacob Ziegler shot a one-under 71 to win the individual title, while the Purdue Boilermakers posted a final round team-score of 304 to secure the overall team championship with a 54-hole number of 897, which was three strokes better than host Missouri, which took second with a score of 900. Bowling Green (903), UConn (908) and Central Connecticut State (908) rounded out the top five in the team event.

Canisius will return to action Sept. 11-12 in East Lansing, Mich., when the team takes part in the Fossum/Spartan Invitational, which will be hosted by Michigan State Univeristy.
