The Canisius College volleyball team lost in three sets at Loyola University on Sunday, in Reitz Arena. The Golden Griffins lost 25-16, 28-26 and 25-15 to fall to 11-11 overall and 7-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Emily Elek led Canisius for the second straight day, recording 12 kills. Sophomore Samantha Good had seven kills and one error on 14 attack attempts, posting a .429 attack percentage and recording four blocks. Junior Janelle Davis had 24 assists while sophomore Allyson Severyn had a match-high 15 digs.

"Not only didn't we get a win today, but we lacked the character and heart today that we've shown for the majority of this season," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "We need to look ourselves in the mirror and find that character we lost during the past week."

Canisius took an early 6-3 lead in the first set, getting three kills from Elek. The Greyhounds then won five straight points and never looked back en route to the 25-16 first-set win.

Loyola (9-15, 3-7 MAAC) led for the first half of the second set, using a 6-3 run to take a 16-12 lead after a service ace from Nina Camaioni. The Griffs came back by winning five straight points - getting two kills from senior Jasmine Brennan and a block from Brennan and Good to go up 17-16. No team held more than a one-point lead until the end of the set, as Canisius had one set point at 24-23, but a kill from Simone Reid tied the match at 24-24. Loyola needed three set points to close out the set, getting a kill from Nicole Sarby to go up 2-0 in the match.

Loyola cruised to the third-set win, building a 10-1 lead and never looking back.

Camaioni led the Greyhounds with 15 kills on the day to go along with 13 digs. Aubrey Kirven posted a match-high 36 assists as Loyola hit .290 on the day.

Canisius wraps up its three-game road stretch at rival Niagara on Wednesday. Match time at the Gallagher Center is set for 7 p.m.

Match Notes: The second set had 18 ties and seven lead changes... Elek had double-digit kills for the fifth straight match, matching Good for the longest streak on the team this season... The Griffs had a .855 service reception percentage on the day, their lowest since posting a .847 percentage against Davidson on Sept. 3...
