Sophomores
Samantha Good (Rochester, N.Y.) and Allyson Severyn (Lancaster, N.Y.) were
honored with end-of-the-year awards at the awards banquet in Lake Buena Vista,
Fla. on Saturday night. Good was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year
and selected to the All-MAAC First Team while Severyn was named the MAAC Libero
of the Year and named to the All-MAAC Second Team.
Good
is the first player in program history to be named MAAC Offensive Player of the
Year and is the first Canisius selection to the All-MAAC First Team since 2006. Good, who earned All-MAAC Second-Team honors as a sophomore, finished the
season by averaging 2.95 kills per set and had a .332 attack percentage on the
season. Good was the only player in the conference to rank in the top five in
each of those categories. Good also led the MAAC with a 1.03 blocks per set
average. The 5-foot-10 middle hitter was named MAAC Offensive Player of the
Week a league-high three times.
Severyn
was second in the conference with a 5.62 digs per set average during conference
play. The 5-foot-5 libero had 16 matches on the season with 20-plus digs,
including the final four matches of the season. Severyn earned MAAC Defensive
Player of the Week honors on Oct. 12 and is the current program leader in digs
per set (5.10).
Severyn
is the third Canisius libero to win a yearly award and first since Jess
Stackhouse was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year three times (2004, 2006,
2007).
Four
Golden Griffins were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team - seniors Jasmine Brennan and Renee Lettow, junior Danielle Brawn and sophomore Allyson Severyn. Lettow and Brennan
received the honor for the third time while Brawn was honored for the second
time. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must
complete two semesters at her institution and hold a cumulative grade point
average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
