The Canisius College men's and women's cross
country teams easily won the Little Three Championship at Veterans Memorial
Park in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon. The men's team won the title
for the sixth consecutive year while the Canisius women's team won the title
for the fifth consecutive season.
On the men's side, the Golden Griffins accumulated 19 points as a team,
defeating Niagara (52) and St. Bonaventure (87). Freshman Chad Maloy won the men's race with
a time of 26 minutes, 27 seconds, 20 seconds ahead of teammate Nathan McCabe. Junior Aaron Hoven
took third place with a time of 27:24. With two Niagara runners taking fourth
and fifth place, the Golden Griffins had runners finish in seventh through 11th
place. Senior Jon McDonald edged
out teammate Andrew Coy for
sixth place as each turned in a time of 27:46. Junior Alex Simon (27:48) was eighth while Ricky Loobyand Chris
Sauvageau (27:56) went ninth and 10th.
On the women's side, Canisius totaled 26 points while St. Bonaventure was
second with 47 points and Niagara was third with 51 points. Senior Christine Mulvihill won the
race with a time of 18:54, taking the race by 14 seconds. Senior Jill Shea (19:09) was third while
fellow senior Julie Dahlkemper 19:30)
was fourth. Sophomore Mikelle Cala (19:59)
took eighth and freshman Brandi
Pettit (20:39) was 10th.
Both the men's and women's team will compete in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh
University on Friday. Race time in Bethelhem, Pa. is set for 2 p.m.
