The Canisius College men's cross country team took 19th place and the women's entry finished 20th as both programs took part in the 38th annual Paul Short Run presented by Brooks Friday afternoon at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. In the men's race, freshman Chad Maloy placed 42nd on the wet course, while  senior Christine Mulvihill took top honors among the Canisius women's team with her 38th place finish.

On the men's side, the Golden Griffins placed 19th in a field of 46 teams with 556 total points. Maloy, who has led the team in each of the squad's previous three events, finished the 8K course in 26:28, four second ahead of teammate Nate McCabe, who placed 45th with his time of 26:32. Junior Aaron Hoven crossed the line in 27:08 to rank 116th in the field of 382 runners, while sophomore Ricky Looby posted a time of 27:33 to place 165th. Iona won the race with 125 team points after placing two runners among the top five in the field.

Mulvihill finished first for the Griffs for the third time this season with her time of 23:06, which placed her 38th in the field. Senior teammate Jill Shea crossed the line moments later in 41st place after she ran the rain-soaked 6K track in 23:09. Senior Julie Dahlkemper placed 112th after posting a time of 24:03 and sophomore Mikelle Cala placed 159th with her time of 24:25. Iona won the race on the women's side as well with 125 team points thanks to placing four runners among the top-20 in the field of 386 participants.

Both cross country teams will return to action Oct. 15, when Canisius travels to the New York state capital to take part in the UAlbany Invitational. Action is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
