Cross Country Finishes Fifth At MAAC Championships

The Canisius women were led by a trio of seniors, with Jill Shea finishing 19th with a time of 22 minutes, 57 seconds. Following Shea were Christine Mulvihill in 21st (23:06) and Julie Dahlkamper in 27th (23:26). Rounding out the top five for the Griffs were sophomore Mikelle Cala in 35th (24:00) and freshman Brandi Pettit in 41st (24:22).
On the men's side, freshman Chad Maloy crossed first for the Griffs in a time of 26:07 to take 15th. Sophomore Nate McCabe was 26th in a time of 26:33 while junior Aaron Hoven was 33rd with a time of 26:54. Senior Jonathan MacDonald was 39th with a time of 27:00, and junior Alex Simon took 48th with a time of 27:20.
Iona won the men's and women's races. The Gaels earned 18 points on the women's side. Marist took second (60), followed by Loyola (79) and Rider (102). After Canisius (143) were Fairfield (146), Niagara (229), Siena (231), Manhattan (247) and Saint Peter's (302).
On the men's side, the Gaels took first with a team score of 15 points. Marist was second (66), followed by Rider (75) and Fairfield (95). After Canisius (165) were Manhattan (181), Siena (215), Loyola (219), Niagara (249) and Saint Peter's (275).
Canisius finished ahead of Niagara in both races, earning four points in the Battle of the Bridge competition and tying the 2010-11 competition at four points apiece.
