A
day after receiving a pair of honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference, senior forward Kelly Reinwald of the Canisius College
women's soccer team was named to the Capital One Academic All-America District
One First Team as announced Friday afternoon by College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the second year Reinwald has received
the honor.
Holding a 3.92 GPA, the
finance major has succeeded in the classroom and on the pitch. This season, the
forward recorded 31 points off 10 goals and 11 assists en route to being named
All-MAAC First Team. As one of the team captains this season,
Reinwald served as a leader on the field, challenging her teammates with her
strong work ethic and desire to make others around her better.
Earlier this season, Reinwald
became the Griffs' all-time career assist leader against St. Francis (Pa.) with
a three-point effort, including a goal and an assist. In the third week of the
season, the Stafford, Va., native earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for
her four-point weekend in the Griffs' homestand versus Quinnipiac and
Youngstown State. At the Big Four Tournament, she recorded a career-high five
points against St. Bonaventure to earn all-tournament honors.
A four-year starter for the Golden
Griffins, Reinwald started all 79 games she appeared in. A four-time
All-MAAC First Team selection and three-time MAAC All-Academic selection, she
finished her career as the Golden Griffins' all-time leader in points (107) and
assists (35). In her career, she received multiple conference honors, including
2010 MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and 2008 MAAC All-Rookie Team honoree.
For her excellence on
the field and in the classroom in 2010, Reinwald became the first member of the
women's soccer team to be named to the ESPN Academic All-America Women's Soccer
Second Team. In addition, she was named to the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru NCAA Division I Women's
Soccer All-Northeast Region Third Team for the second-straight year.
