NOTING THE GRIFFS

  • On a season-long four-match winning streak, the Canisius College volleyball team closes out the regular season schedule at Loyola and Rider this weekend.
  • Canisius defeated Rider in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 25-9, 25-23) while Canisius defeated Loyola in three sets (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) earlier this season in the Koessler Athletic Center.
  • Canisius has won the last 11 meetings with Rider and is 18-3 in the last 21 matches with the Broncs.
  • Canisius has won five of the last seven meetings overall with Loyola, but the Greyhounds have won three of the last four matchups in Baltimore.
  • Senior Janelle Davis was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Davis averaged 9.83 assists per set and 2.50 digs per set to go along with a .588 attack percentage.
  • Junior Allyson Severyn was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Severyn averaged 7.33 digs per set last weekend and was 39-for-40 on service receptions. 
  • Severyn’s 28 digs in three-set win against Marist were the most by a Golden Griffin in a three-set match since Jess Stackhouse had 28 against Iona on Oct. 29, 2006.
  • Davis is fifth in the conference in assists per set, with a career-high average of 9.34. Davis is also tied for seventh in service aces per set (0.35).  
  • Severyn is fourth in the MAAC in digs per set (4.72). 
  • Senior Danielle Brawn is tied for third in the conference kills per set (3.57).
  • Junior Samantha Good is tied for fith in the conference in attack percentage (.284).
  • Sophomore Roxanne Hernandez had five blocks in each match last weekend. The five solo blocks by Hernandez in the sweep of Siena were the most by a Golden Griffin since Leigh Launhardt had five solo blocks on Nov. 5, 2006, also against Siena.
  • Canisius is one of three schools, along with Fairfield and Siena, to have 10-plus MAAC wins in at least four of the last five seasons. 
  • The Golden Griffins rank third in the MAAC with 63 conference wins since the start of the 2006 season.
  • Seniors Layne Adams and Joanna Burt are the team’s captains for the 2011 season. Adams is a captain for the second consecutive season.

 

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Senior Janelle Davis is averaging a career-high 9.34 assists per set this season. She has posted an attack percentage of .400 or better in 18 matches. Davis leads the team with 34 service aces, 10 more than any other Golden Griffin.
  • Senior Danielle Brawn has recorded double-digit kills in 21 matches this season, leading 19 teams this season. Brawn’s 346 kills during her senior season are more than her first three seasons combined (195).
  • Junior Samantha Good leads the the team with a .284 attack percentage, hitting .300 or better in 12 matches this season. Good is averaging 0.97 blocks per set during the last 14 matches and 3.29 kills per set with a .390 attack percentage in the last five matches.
  • Junior Allyson Severyn leads the team at 4.72 digs per set, including a season-high 34 digs against Rider on Oct. 15. Severyn has 40 matches in her career with 20 or more digs and has a 97.0 service reception percentage in the last 18 matches.
  • Senior Layne Adams is second on the team with a .264 attack percentage. Adams has 306 career blocks, which ranks eighth in program history, and is the MAAC’s active leader in the category.
  • Freshman Olivia Chrzanowski has started 13 of the last 14 matches and has seven or more kills in nine of the last 15 matches. She has a service reception percentage of 94.5 in the last 15 matches.
  • Sophomore Jessica Warner has made 12 starts on the season. Warner set a career high with eight blocks against Fairfield on Oct. 23, the most blocks by a Golden Griffin in a match this season. She has a 94.0 service reception percentage in her last 12 appearances.
  • Sophomore Emily Elek ranks third on the team at 2.14 kills per set. Elek has double-digit kills in eight matches and has recorded two double-doubles this year.
  • Senior Joanna Burt is averaging 1.61 digs per set and has recorded at least 10 digs in six matches, including a career-high 16 digs against Manhattan on Oct. 2. Burt has a 95.6 service reception percentage in her last 22 appearances. As a senior, Burt has set career highs in sets played, digs and service reception percentage.
  • Sophomore Roxanne Hernandez has started 12 matches this season and is third on the team with 0.63 blocks per set. In the last nine matches, Hernandez is averaging 2.08 kills per set, .371 attack percentage.
  • Sophomore Sydney Palka had a season-high 12 assists against St. Francis and a season-high 10 digs against Morgan State.

LOYOLA SCOUT

  • Loyola enters the final weekend of the regular season with an 8-21 overall record and 5-11 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Greyhounds have won their last two matches.
  • In MAAC play, Loyola ranks ninth in the MAAC in attack percentage (.153), eighth in opponent attack percentage (.227), ninth in blocks per set (1.52) and third in service aces per set (1.67).
  • Elena Frac is tied for first in the MAAC in service aces per set (0.44).  Tina Catanach leads the team with a 2.72 kills per set average. Lauren Andersen leads the team in assists per set (8.74) while Janet Pressler leads the team in digs per set (3.52).

RIDER SCOUT

  • Rider enters the weekend with a 5-23 overall record and 3-13 record in the MAAC. The Broncs have dropped three straight after a three-set sweep of Iona on Oct. 29.
  • In MAAC play, Rider ranks seventh in the MAAC in attack percentage (.191), ninth in opponent attack percentage (.232), 10th in blocks per set (1.47) and fourth in service aces per set (1.63).
  • Stephanie Nagy is tied for fifth in the MAAC in attack percentage (.284) while Jaclyn Webber is 10th in the conference in kills per set (3.10). Shelbie Stannard leads the team in digs per set (3.11) while Ashlee Amatulli leads the team in assists per set (6.25).
