Former Golden Griffin lacrosse standout Adam Jones '11 has continued his success at the professional level,
earning National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week accolades for the Colorado
Mammoth this past week.
The third overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, Jones
totaled 14 points in victories against the Edmonton Rush and Calgary Roughnecks
during the weekend. He netted five goals and recorded three assists against the
Rush on Friday, including the helper on the game-winning tally with 15 seconds
left. Jones then recorded six points, three goals and three assists in a 13-12
overtime win on Saturday. He scored the final two goals in regulation to help
send the contest into the extra session.
The Owen Sound, Ontario native currently ranks second in the
NLL in both points (20) and goals (11), while ranking fifth in assists (9)
during his rookie campaign. He is also tied for the league lead with four
power-play tallies.
Jones' early success at Colorado comes after completing one
of the better careers in the school's history. The program's first
All-American, Jones accumulated 129 points and 98 goals during his tenure. He
ranks sixth in the program's history in career goals and 10th in career points
despite missing most of his senior season due to injury. During both his
freshman sophomore seasons, the three-time all-conference selection led all
midfielders in Division I in goals.
Jones and the Mammoth return to action on Saturday, hosting
the Rochester Knighthawks. The game will feature Jones and his classmate at Canisius Dan Coates squaring off against 2005 Golden Griffin graduate and two-time reigning NLL Goaltender of the Year Matt Vinc.
