Former Golden Griffin lacrosse standout Adam Jones '11 has wasted no time making an impact in his first
season in the National Lacrosse League, picking up NLL Rookie of the Month
honors after leading the Colorado Mammoth to a perfect 4-0 record.
The third overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, Jones
finished the league's opening month ranked fourth in the NLL in points (22) and
third in goals (12). Both totals also ranked first among rookies, while placing
second among first-year players with 10 assists.
"My goal was to come in, find a role and just help our
team," Jones said. "To have this [award] and also be 4-0, I couldn't ask for a
better start."
The Owen Sound, Ontario native was awarded the honor after a
vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
Jones' success at Colorado comes after completing one of the
better careers in the Canisius program's history. The team's first
All-American, Jones accumulated 129 points and 98 goals during his tenure. He
ranks sixth in the program's history in career goals and 10th in career points
despite missing most of his senior season due to injury. During both his
freshman and sophomore seasons, the three-time all-conference selection led all
midfielders in Division I in goals.
Jones and the Mammoth return to action on Saturday as
Colorado looks to match the best start in franchise history against Edmonton.
