The Canisius College hockey team begins a run of four-straight home-and-home series with a pair of games against Robert Morris. Canisius plays at Robert Morris on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and hosts the Colonials on Saturday at the Buffalo State Sports Arena at 7:05 p.m.
MORRISON NEARS PROGRAM'S SAVES RECORD
• Dan Morrison is getting close to making his mark on the program's record book.
• Morrison has totaled 2,711 saves during his career and is approaching the school record.
• The senior is now just 60 saves shy of the mark set by Bryan Worosz from 2001 to 2005 (2,771 saves).
SAVING HIS BEST FOR LAST
• Not only is Dan Morrison having his best season in his last year, but the senior has been nearly unbeatable late in games.
• Morrison has dominated the third and overtime periods during his senior season, posting a 1.12 goals against average and .963 save percentage.
• Overall, Morrison is on pace to set career bests as a senior with a 2.65 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
GOALTENDING BEHIND CANISIUS' SUCCESS
• The goaltending duo of senior Dan Morrison and sophomore Tony Capobianco has been key to the Griffs' success this season.
• The Canisius goaltenders have allowed just 10 goals (1.25 average) in its eight wins this season. In six of the eight victories, the Griffs allowed one or fewer tallies.
• The Griffs have needed the goalies to be on their games as Canisius has averaged just 2.50 goals per game (before empty-net tallies) in wins.
• Six of the team's eight victories this season have been by just one score before empty-net goals.
NEW FACES AND BALANCED SCORING LEAD GRIFFS IN JAN.
• Since the turn of the calendar, a number of new faces have stepped up for Canisius to lead the team to a 4-3-1 record.
• A team that relied upon two players in the first half of the season - Kyle Gibbons and Taylor Law posted a point on 73.3 percent of the team's goals - Canisius increased its scoring offense by 0.58 goals per game in January (1.67 to 2.25).
• The secret for Canisius is the number of players it can now rely upon to lead the offense. A total of 15 players posted at least two points and no more than five during the month.
• Six players recorded their first career multi-point games in January - Doug Jessey, Mitch McCrank, Duncan McKellar, Ben Parker, Braeden Rigney and Tyler Wiseman.
CANISIUS - ROBERT MORRIS SERIES HISTORY
• The series is knotted at 4-4-1 in nine all-time meetings between the two schools.
• Each team has won two games since Robert Morris joined Atlantic Hockey. The home team has won all four meetings as conference rivals.
• Robert Morris has won the last two games against the Griffs, including a 2-1 victory in Pittsburgh earlier in the season.
• Dave Smith's first career game as Canisius head coach was against Robert Morris on Oct. 9, 2005 with the Griffs earning a 6-4 victory.
ABOUT THE COLONIALS
• Robert Morris enters the weekend in fifth place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 10-6-3 league record. The Colonials are 12-11-3 overall.
• The Colonials were swept last weekend to Niagara.
• Cody Chrichton leads the team with 21 points on six goals and 15 assists, while Cody Wydo has netted a team-best 12 goals this season.
• Brooks Ostergard and Eric Levine have both seen action in net this season. Ostergard has posted a 6-8-2 record with a 2.25 goals against average and .935 save percentage, while Levine owns a 6-3-1 mark with a 2.50 goals against average and .926 save percentage.
