After a first-place finish to open the season, the Canisius College synchronized swimming team hosted Wheaton College and Lindenwood University at the Canisius College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool. The host Golden Griffins recorded a first-place team finish with 90 points followed by Wheaton (72 points) and Lindenwood (14 points), respectively.
"The girls swam outstanding today," said head coach Jill Wright. "Their energy and endurance was a huge step up from last week."
The Golden Griffins dominated in all the events entered, taking the first two spots. In the duo event, sophomore Svetlana Ponkratova teamed with junior Victoria Mintz to take first with a score of (88.667).
In the duos, freshman Viktoria Mironova and sophomore Morgan Lebrecht combined to finish second with a score of 84.167.
The duo of Ponkratova and Mintz would join Mironova to capture first in the trio competition (87.667). In the event, the team of sophomore Jessica Mancini, junior Melissa Andrews, and Lebrecht took home second (83.667).
Ponkratova (89.500) and senior Jessica Grogan (83.667) finished one-two, respectively, in the solo competition.
Canisius will face a familiar opponent in Wheaton College at the Wheaton Invitational, as the Golden Griffins travel to Norton, Mass. on Feb. 11-12.
