Vogl's Strong Start Leads Golf in Maryland

Canisius College junior Joe Vogl matched a career-best round with a two-over par 74, and fellow junior Michael Carrig shot a four-over 76 as the Golden Griffins opened play at the 14th Annual Fireline Invitational, hosted by Towson at Prospect Bay Country Club in Gasonville, Md.

As a team, Canisius posted a score of 310, which ranks 20th in the field of 22 teams. Northern Colorado leads the team event after 18 holes after the squad shot an even-par 288.


Vogl's previous career-best score was posted earlier this season at Bucknell, when he posted a 74 in the final round. He is currently tied for 25 in the field, while Carrig is tied for 47th in the field. Canisius freshman Patrick Fahey recorded a 79 on the day is starts round two tied for 88th overall.


The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament will tee-off at 8 a.m., on Saturday.
