Canisius College baseball coach Mike McRae has announced that two additional student-athletes will be a part of the Golden Griffin baseball program for the 2013 season. Alex Godzak and Mike Tolsma will join the group of Richard Hopcia, Auston Ingram, Anthony Massicci, Brett Siddall, Tyler Soucie and Mitchell Triolo and bring the total to eight for newcomers with the Golden Griffins next season.

"These two pitchers will complement a very talented pitching staff. Each should contribute in a significant way," McRae said. "We were a little thin with our left-handed arms, only having Eric Stolzenburg as a returning lefty. We just got significantly better by adding these two players."

  • Left-Handed Pitcher
  • Went 10-1 with a 0.90 ERA as a senior. Had 118 strikeouts in 70.1 innings pitched
  • Threw a no-hitter during 2012 season
  • Earned ESPN High School National Player of the Week honors for the East Region on June 7 after sending Westhill to the state tournament

McRae on Godzak
"Alex has an exciting young arm. He had an outstanding senior year and should flourish as a Griff."

Alex Godzak
(Syracuse, N.Y.)

  • Left-Handed Pitcher
  • Spent the last two seasons at Erie Community College
  • Went 3-5 with a save in 45.2 innings this spring
  • Went 3-3 with a save in 52 innings in 2011. Team advanced to the NJCAA World Series after Tolsma threw a complete game in regional final over No. 2 team in the country

McRae on Tolsma
"Mike is a veteran arm who has a lot of college experience. We are counting on this experience to assist us in our quest for a MAAC Championship."

Mike Tolsma
(Tonawanda, N.Y.)
