Former Canisius College baseball player Kevin Mahoney was recently selected by the fans to represent the Eastern Division at the 2012 Eastern League All-Star Game. Mahoney is an infielder for the Trenton Thunder, the Double-AA affiliate of the New York Yankees, but will be unable to play in the game due to an injury.

Mahoney is hitting .285 on the season with a .380 on-base percentage to go along with six home runs and 19 RBI in 151 at-bats. A 23rd-round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft, the Miller Place, N.Y. native is in his first full season at the Double-AA level. Mahoney has been on the disabled list since June 6 with a leg injury.

Mahoney played for the Golden Griffins from 2006-09, appearing in 216 career games. The 2009 MAAC Player of the Year posted a .323 career batting average and .935 fielding percentage as the team's starting third baseman in all four seasons. Mahoney set the program's single-season home run record with 22 homers as a senior in 2009 and also set the program's career records with 47 homers, 187 RBI, 202 runs scored and 116 walks. He left as the program's all-time leader in hits (254) and also set the program's single-season RBI record with 62 in 2009, both records that have been broken since Mahoney graduated.

Mahoney is the second former Golden Griffin to be selected as an All-Star this season as Sean Jamieson earned a start in the Midwest League All-Star Game. Jamieson plays for the Burlington Bees, a Class-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
