The MAAC has selected Canisius as
the hosts of the 2013 Swimming & Diving and Men's Lacrosse
Championships, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The
2013 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships are
returning to Buffalo for the third-straight year. Canisius and Niagara
are both set to host the championship at the Burt Flickinger Center on
the city campus of Erie Community College from February 14 to February
16.
Canisius will also
host the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship for the fifth time at the
Demske Sports Complex. The defending conference champions, the Griffs
hosted the league title game in 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2011. Canisius, who
earned the MAAC crown with a 10-9 win versus Siena in Poughkeepsie this
past season, will host the semifinals on May 3 and the championship on
May 5.
It marks the
fourth-straight season that the Griffs welcome two MAAC championships to
Buffalo. During the 2009-10 year, Canisius was the site of the
volleyball and softball tournaments, while hosting both the swimming
& diving and men's lacrosse championships in 2011 and swimming &
diving and women's lacrosse in 2012.
Last
season, the Golden Griffin women's lacrosse team became the first
Canisius program to win a championship in Buffalo since the women's
basketball team took the 2005 crown at HSBC Arena.
