ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Canisius senior Michael Carrig fired a career-low 67 and fellow senior Mike Spiotta posted a one-over par 73 in the first round of the 58th Little Three Golf Chmapionships this morning at Harvest Hill Golf Course. As a team, the Golden Griffins posted a team score of 292, which is eight strokes better than second-place St. Bonaventure.
Carrig went out in 32, which is four-under par and posted a 35 on the back nine for his career-best round. He carded six birdies and a bogey in the morning session. Senior Joe Vogl and freshman Brendan Polsin posted four-over par scores of 76 for the Blue and Gold in round one.
Defending Little Three individual champion Brian McKenna shot 73 for the Bonnies, who have a team score of 300. Niagara sophomore Michael Jiggins was tied for ninth after round one with his score of 77. The Purple Eagles started round two in third place with a team score of 312.
