Current Canisius men's lacrosse head coach Randy Mearns led the Canadian National
Team to victory in his debut at the "Duel in Denver" with the help of four
former Golden Griffin standouts. Mearns and Canisius graduates Angus Dineley '07, Adam Jones '11, Kevin Ross
'07 and Matt Vinc '05 led Team
Canada to a win over the rival United States, 11-9, on Saturday.
Both Jones and Ross contributed two points to the winning
effort, scoring a goal and adding an assist, while Dineley and Vinc were both
apart of a strong defensive effort. In goal, Dineley recorded 10 saves in the
second half of play to shut down a strong United States attack.
The matchup was the first between the sport's top two
nations since the 2010 FIL World Championship. The "Duel in Denver"
served as a prelude to the 2014 FIL World Championship, which will be held in
Denver from July 10-19, 2014. The countries have split the last two world
championships with Canada taking the 2006 title and Team USA winning in 2010.
