Softball Goes 2-2 at Nan Harvey Fall Classic

The Golden Griffins will return to fall action Saturday, Sept. 22, when the team hosts the Canadian-based team AJAX at the Demske Sports Complex, with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
Game 1 - Niagara 3, Canisius 2
Junior Jen Consaul allwed six hits and two runs through five innings, but the Purple Eagles rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score the game-winning run on a base hit by Des Maldonado. Niagara led 2-0 through three frames before junior Valorie Nappo drilled a two-run double in the fourth to knot the game at 2-2.
Sophomores Michelle DelPrince and Marissa Miller and freshman Bethany DeMarco each added base hits to the Griffs' effort.
Game 2 - Canisius 9, St. Bonaventure 5
Senior pitcher Amanda Baun earned the win in the circle after she allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out five in five innings of work. Miller had two hits in the win and drove in three RBIs, while freshman Meghan Cuda went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Robin Kennery had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Valorie Nappo and sophomore Erica Afanador had two hits as well.
Freshman pitcher Jenn Solis saw her first college action in the circle and Consaul came on in relief and earned the save for the Griffs.
Game 3 - Buffalo 8, Canisius 6 (8 innings)
The Griffs forced extra innings by scoring run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 5-5, but the Bulls responded with three runs in the eighth (one earned) to score the victory. Consaul allowed two runs on six hits through five innings in the circle before sophomore Corrine Schaus came on in relief. Schaus allowed four runs on six hits in the game's final three innings.
Miller had an RBI for Canisius, which had the winning run on third base with one out in the seventh, but couldn't force the run across the dish.
Consolation Game - Canisius 3, St. Bonaventure 2
Canisius took third-place at the weekend event by earning a 3-2 win over the Bonnies in the consolation game. Baun went the distance for the Griffs in the circle and fanned eight, as the Blue and Gold rallied froma 2-0 deficit to score the win.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, freshman Tori Nappo got the rally rolling with a base hit, and Miller knotted the game at 2-2 with a home run to straight-away center. After sophomore Kalie Michalski got on base with a one-out single, DelPrince reached with a base hit to right and Cuda loaded the bases with an infield single. Canisius won the game when Michalski raced home on a wild pitch to score the winning run.
Cuda, DeMarco and Tori Nappo had two hits apeice in the win for Canisius.
