Jamieson Playing For Canada In WBC Qualifier

Former Canisius College baseball player Sean Jamieson is one of 28 players on the roster for Team Canada in a four-team qualifier for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. The double elimination tournament featuring Canada, Czech Republic, Great Britain and host Germany, is scheduled to take place Sept. 20-24.

Jamieson just completed his second year at the professional level, playing with the Burlington Bees and the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Class-A Midwest League. A 17th-round pick of the Oakland Athletics in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft, Jamieson was traded in August to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Stephen Drew.  

Jamieson earned Midwest League All-Star honors, his second consecutive year of being named to an All-Star Team after earning the accoloades in the New York-Penn League. In his 14 games with South Bend, Jamieson hit .327 with eight runs scored and seven RBI. In 133 games this season, Jamieson recorded 30 stolen bases. 

The 2013 World Baseball Classic will take place in March with the host countries being Germany, Panama, Chinese Taipei and the United States. Twelve teams already have qualified for the 2013 WBC while four four-team qualificiation tournaments will produce the other four participants.
