Former Syracuse standout Janelle Stegeland has joined the Canisius College women's lacrosse
coaching staff, announced by head coach Scott
Teeter on Monday. An All-Big East performer during her collegiate career
with the Orange, Stegeland will work with the team's defense at Canisius.
Stegeland helped anchor a Syracuse defense that made two
trips to championship weekend during her tenure, including an appearance in the
national championship game as a senior. Named to the All-Big East Second Team
in 2012 as a defender, Stegeland set a career high with 22 ground balls to go
along with 11 caused turnovers in her final campaign.
Overall, the Cortland, N.Y. native appeared in 71 games
during her SU career with 62 starting assignments, while totaling 43 ground
balls, 26 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls. Following her graduation in
2012, Stegeland was selected to play in the IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star
Game.
Stegeland earned her bachelor's degree from Syracuse in policy
studies. She is currently pursuing her master's in sport administration at
Canisius.
The two-time defending MAAC Champions, Canisius finished the
2012 campaign with a 10-9 record. Seven starters and 15 letterwinners return in
2013 as the Griffs attempt to become the first team in MAAC history to win
three-straight titles.
