Looking to use the momentum from their comeback win over Saint Peter's at home on Friday evening, the Golden Griffins (4-12-0, 2-4-0 MAAC) wasted no time against Manhattan (4-9-0, 1-4-0 MAAC) scoring the first goal of the contest on the game's first shot.

Gaining possession in the Griffs' end, junior Katie Griffin sent a lead pass from just inside the midfield line to junior Kelly McMahon. McMahon managed to settle the ball before leading the Griffs' break into the Jaspers' end. Working her way around the last challenging defender, McMahon pulled the shot across her body from 10 yards out for her first goal of the season to give the Griffs a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.

The Jaspers quickly knotted the contest at 1-1 less than three minutes later on their own first shot of the contest. Emily Ude managed to locate the loose ball off a Manhattan corner kick. Ude sent a touch pass over to leading goal scorer Janie Schlauder, who scored her fourth goal of the season.

Following the pair of goals in the first eight minutes of the contest, both teams would battle for possession. The possession battle in each end resulted in 25 total corner kicks in the contest, including 14 for the Griffs and 11 for the Jaspers.

To break the tie, the Griffs capitalized on their corner kick opportunity in the 75th minute. From the left corner, sophomore Jenny Piaggione perfectly dropped the ball into the six-yard box with Smith heading the ball in for the Griffs' 2-1 lead and eventual game-winning goal.

Smith has accounted for six of the Griffs' last seven goals since opening conference play on Iona on Oct. 5. The junior has registered 12 points in the span of four games.

Making her second career start in goal was sophomore Brigid St. Leger. The sophomore tied her career game-high with nine saves against Manhattan to collect her second win of the season.

In the loss, Manhattan outshot the Griffs, 20-18. The two teams each registered 11 shots on net.

The Blue and Gold will look continue their two-game winning streak in MAAC action next weekend, as they face Rider and Loyola on the road. The Griffs open the weekend at Rider with the kickoff set for 7 p.m.
