"You can never take a road win for granted, especially one in three sets. We got a number of good efforts from a lot of players today, and Sydney continued to distribute the ball to a variety of hitters," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "We will try to carry this solid play to Baltimore and work to get another road win."
Canisius carried over its efficient offensive play from last week's match at Marist to the first set at Rider by posting a .455 attack percentage and 22 kills in the opening set. The Griffs won the first three points and never trailed in the set as Rider would cut the deficit to 13-12. Canisius then won three straight points to build a cushion and closed out the set on a kill from junior Emily Elek.
The teams stayed tight for the first half of the second set, with the Griffs leading 14-13 after a service error. Canisius would win 11 of the final 13 points in the set, including the last five points on the serve of Good, and went up 2-0 in the match after a kill from Warner.
Rider (10-12, 4-9 MAAC) took an early 7-3 lead in the third set before the Griffs used a 6-1 run to take a 9-8 lead after a Rider error. With the score tied at 10-10, the Griffs created separation with a three-point run and then pushed the lead to 19-11 after another Rider error.
